1. Money๐ถ๐ถ๐ถ
Even though you're going to work for free, the trip itself is not free. Mine cost about 1600e. This includes flights, housing and some of the money goes to support the Wildlife friends foundation of Thailand. Thankfully I gratuated from High School last spring, so I got money from my relatives and was able to use it for this trip. I also got some scolarships which I also used for paying this amazing experience. I've also been working all summer, all autumn and winter and still am working, which makes it a lot easier to have money for this. I hate it how everything you want to do seems to require a lot of money now a days. ๐ It was so much easier as a child when all you wanted was to run in the woods and see faries. ๐ฑ♀️ (At least I did๐)
2. Vaccinations ๐
When working in a place like this, you must have your vaccinations checked. This isn't cheap either, which is something people should think in advanced. I got six different ones and they cost me about 700e. ๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ So yes darlings you need to work before being able to go to volunteer work. Here is what I got and about how much they cost, so you will understand a bit better:
- Rabies (rabies in finnish also) cost about 84e each and you get three of these so 84x3=252e
- Hepatitis B (hepatiitti B in finnish) cost about 51e each and you get three of these also and that is 51x3=153e
- Japanese Encephalitis (japanin aivotulehdus in finnish) cost about 125e each and you get two of these which makes 250e
-Typhoid fever (lavantauti in finnish) cost about 33e and it is three pills that you eat so it costs the 33e.
- Cholera (kolera in finnish) cost about 55e and this is some weird powder and liquid you mix with wather twice. But the cost for this one is totally 55e.
-Polio (polio in finnish too) is free because it is part of the finnish vaccination system.
So 252e+153e+250e+33e+55e=743e #omg๐ต
There are so so many options with different vaccines that you can get. I thought these where important for me and for this trip. And I already have the vaccination for Hepatitis A so that is why I didn't get it now.
3. Visa๐
Check if you need visa when travelling. I don't need one because I'll be there 29 days and visa is required if you stay 30 days or more. But make sure you get this one right.
4. Learn something about the culture before going. ๐น๐ญ
You will get a volunteer guidebook, read it carefully! ☝️ For example I didn't know that women are not allowed to talk to a munk if a munk doesn't talk to them first. As the talky person I am, I'd totally screw this one up, if I hadn't read it. Fingers crossed that I'll remember this one when we actually get there. ๐ค
So here was few tips for you guys, hopefully they where helpfull.☺️
With love. Emilia
Ps. Only 30 days to go... ๐ป✈️
